Product: 7 9/16" Emperor® (Super Emperor)®
Color: Park Rose
Project: Middle Creek High School
Location: Cary, NC
Comments: A three story academic wing is organized around a media center. The primary shared use elements such as the gymnasium, auditorium, administration and dining are organized around a central commons. The commons is the social center of the school as the media center is the academic center. The commons is the significant public space for the school. The school accommodates 1600 students in grades 9-12. Fanning Howey Associates collaborated on the design. Middle Creek is the third use of this prototype which also includes Green Hope, Wakefield and Holly Springs High Schools.
The 173 acre site was developed as a joint use venture with the Town of Cary Parks and Recreation Department and other local organizations. The site features a four field softball pinwheel, an eight court tennis complex, a football/ track stadium, baseball field and several multi-purpose soccer fields. A 15,000 SF community center is attached to the athletic wing. A key sustainable feature is the ice storage system for heating and cooling. The project was cited for Excellence in Design by American School and University magazine.
